Intellectual
Property Consultation
To help you manage your own technologies and those acquired from
others, we develop intellectual property strategies and file applications
for patents, utility models, plant variety protection certificates,
integrated circuit layout design certificate, etc. We can also help
you in business negotiation and technology licensing in and out
of your company, as well as in developing business strategic plans
based on analysis of patent documents.
We are qualified to handle
copyright matters as well as patents, trademarks, trade secrets,
and other forms of industrial properties (such as plant variety
registration). Although we are
based in Bangkok, we secure intellectual property protection for
you anywhere in the world (directly or through our associated firms)
at reasonable costs. Special discount rates are available for public
institutions and multiple filings.
We have been involved in technology transfer research and consultation
since 1986. In 2002, we were the consultant behind the first international
licensing agreement involving Thai utility models and trade secrets.
In 2003, we were the patent agent behind an international licensing
agreement with a US firm based on a purely Thai invention, involving roughly 1 million
US$ of upfront payments, plus a respectable royalty
rate for future sales. Our experience in negotiation of licensing agreements has been captured in the Technology Transfer Manual that was commissioned by the Ministry of Commerce with financial support from the German Government. We are in the process of rewriting an expanded version of the Technology Transfer Manual to be published in 2005.
We also accept consulting work on technology management. In
early 1996, we led the team that set up an intellectual property
office at NSTDA, a well-known Thai government funding and research
agency. From late 1996 through
2002, our Principal was Director of Intellectual Property Policy
Research at CUIPI. In 1998, we pioneered the technique for formulating
business strategic plans in the Thai business setting based on analysis
of worldwide patent documents. In 2003, we were the consultant behind
the upgrading of the NSTDA IP Office to a full-fledge Technology
Management Office. For the private sector, we have occasionally
been contacted to do intellectual property auditing as well as exit
interviews of leaving employees. In late 2004, we started to combine our patent analysis expertise with text and data mining technologies on the Internet, resulting in an extremel powerful techniue to support any IP mamagement task.
